This instrument is really easy to use and accurate folks.

If you are using this quality instrument you most likely also have a high quality RO DI system that should produce close to 1.000 SG o readings or 0 ppt. Start by measuring the included standard of pure water, press the 0 button and then measure your RO DI water. It should not read more that 1.001 if your RO DI is OK. Then check the included sample that should read 1.025 on the instrument. No more than 0.001 deviation. Then measure your tank water.

It is very important to use a clean (salt free) device to transfer the water sample to the instrument. Also use a little of your RO DI water to clean it lightly and wipe with a clean paper wipe between measurements. If there is any residual ions from previous saltwater samples it can influence readings. Zero the instrument at least twice with a PURE water sample to obtain a zero reading before proceeding.

I've done all that you have mentioned, using the supplied RO/DI and soultion, and still get the same results.

Ok, I spoke with Milwaukee.

When we use the S.G scale,.......with RO/DI water, .......then hit the "zero" button, the reading will be 1.00.

When we use the S.G scale,.......with the 1.025 solution, .....then hit the "Read"button", not the "zero" !

So, it's working perfect and it's so much easier and faster, than my eye piece type of refractometer !

Very happy now !

Thanks everyone.

I used both the distilled water they sent in a bottle and my own RO/DI water to calibrate the unit.
According to the instructions, it should display "0", but both times it reads "1.0"

Is there an issue here ?

That’s because you’re not zeroing on ppm. The 1 is correct. Press the range one more time and it will show 0
