While I was at work I had to look into this whole waiting before reading and found why we don't. The ATC refractometers only react up to 85F. I'm testing urine and when it comes out of the animal it's well over 85F so waiting has no value. I did 3 urinalysis today and tested this out, there was no change in my readings. So although temperature affects a salinity reading, it doesn't affect specific gravity. I also got to do at least one total protein reading on blood serum and waiting did not affect the result then either. At least now I understand and will change my method for testing salinity. Thanks!
