My Refractometer needs calibrated every time I use it. Never had this issue with my previous one. Does this mean that it is a bad Refractometer or am I missing something? I'm pretty sure this is the exact same brand I have used in the past.

I would say it is time to see if you can get an exchange or refund on your current one.

Two comments:

1. Are you using the same light source to calibrate and read saltwater. Wavelength impacts the reading. So if you use natural sunlight to calibrate, use natural sunlight to read saltwater....and if you use florescent bulbs to calibrate....florescent to read water....etc.

2. Are the little hinges swinging freely....very freely. If not, what I do is spray a little WD40 into a cone shaped aperitif glass and then use a toothpick to apply the WD40 to the hinge pins. In the process, I'm swinging the little door back and forth feeling the hinges swinging more freely. If this little door doesn't rest properly, you will get funky readings.

Hope this helps.
