Title says it all. I can get the pinpoint for around the same price. Which is better?

Refractometers will last longer and are easier to calibrate. I also feel they stay more accurate over time.

My friend likes the salinty monitor but does say you have to calibrate it a lot though... I say go with the refractometer. Its nice to know where you sit but honestly I don't use mine very much.

Pinpoint probe all the way for salinity. I had constant issues with my refractometer, you bump it the calibration is off, the room temp is super-cold, it has an impossible time correcting itself, then the water is not spread evenly or it's dim in the basement, making it difficult to see if it's 1.0265 or 1.027.

The probe takes only moments to get to the correct reading, which is a number and a lot easier to read. I'll never rely on my refractometer again.

I have been using my refractometer for a while now without any problems. I check its calibration when I make di

I have both. I originally got the pinpoint meter because when I tried using a friends refractometer I could never make out the numbers. I finally decided to get one of my own and try it out. I found out you can twist the bottom to focus the lens. I felt like an idiot. But it was SO much easier to calibrate than the pinpoint. I needed my dad to help with the calibration of the pinpoint because it was ridiculous (if needed I can go into more detail but thought I would save time and call it ridiculous). I love the refractometer and definitely prefer it over the pinpoint meter.

Both. I take my refractometer to the local fish stores to check their levels before I buy anything from them.

Refractometer all the way, im a stickler and i calibrate mine before every single use, using the calibration liquid. I have never had an issue.

i also agree with reeferbob, i take mine with the store to me.

I think I'll check mine just for fun. But do you ever find that yours is off?

If you talked to me two years ago I would be in the same boat as most of you guys, touting the benefits of using a refractometer.

Little did I know the auto temp correction on mine screwed up, causing my salinity to reach extremely high levels.

My pinpoint probe nails it every time. I have only calibrated it twice and have owned it for about a year and a half now.

Calibration took 5 minutes, so it's a bit more effort since you have to dial in these tiny screws hidden behind the battery.
