There are three different ways of checking the salinity that requires different test solutions. You can measure:
1. Gravitivity with a hydrometer. 3,714 % NaCl corresponds to 3,5% sea water
2. Light refraction with a refractometer. 3,65% NaCl corresponds to 3,5% sea water.
3. Electrical conductivity. 3,29% NaCl corresponds to 3,5% sea water.
Naturally a controlled sample of sea water fits all meters.
I dont know but maybe the American Pinpoint solution is made for electrical conductivity meters only.
