That's the wrong kind of refractometer. The kind you have is to measure sugar content of juice in degrees brix (0 - 32). You need a salinity refractometer for aquariums. You can get one amazon or bulk reef supply, or your LFS (local fish store)

I shoot for a reading of 1.025 by the way

I go for 35 ppt or 1.026

Red sea makes a great refractometer and easy to read. Get some calibration fluid as well. You can measure in SG 1.025-26 or 35 PPT.

That is called a brix refractometer. Oddly enough it was sent to me by Bulk Reef Supply. I have since purchased the aquarium refractometer. I did use the brix while I was waiting for the correct one. Several threads had done the calculations and when I checked my one when I received the right one it was spot on. 35ppm salinity is 4.4% with the brix or 1.33940 index.

You can research aquarium salinity in a reef tank using a brix refractometer. There is alot of good info on the subject.

Get it from BRS, I got mine for like 35 bucks with the calibration liquid. Mine was blurry so I had to adjust it, thought it was my vision lol. Then I calibrated it which took 15 seconds.. DONT go the cheat ebay imitation ones for 10 bucks from china, they are garbage.

Great advice!!! I actually got mine from Bulk Reef Supply as well.

its been about 18 years since I had a fish tank so it was like a new toy at xmas. lol I think I checked my water like 5 times lol just to play with it. My wife said what you looking for gold? lol
