bought a refrac on ebay, when it arrived looking thru it, it was very dark almost to the point i couldn’t read it. I used a refrac for years in the soda industry.I never had one that dark,Is it me or should i see about getting another?

Should be plenty visble holding it to a good light.

Are you sure it is in focus? I know mine will start to get dark after using it for a while because I inadvertently change the focus every time I grab it.

Some will be very dark blue at 0. Have you tried your calibration fluid that at 35. You should now see light and dark.

When I first got mine I thought it was broken because it was so dark.

Turns out you're not supposed to point it at a light like a telescope, you're supposed to hold it directly under a light so that it's shining through the glass where the water is.
