Refractometer

Would this refractometer work well:
Is there anything else that you all would recommend instead? Are digital refractometer a like the Hanna one really that much better, or is this good enough?
It should work just fine. Go to BRS and pick up some calibration fluid. Then calibrate it everytime you use it at first to see how well it's holding. I no longer calibrate mine before every use because it's holding is calibration steady... but I do check the calibration after every few tests just to be sure.

Fyi... make sure you clean it regularly and make sure the top flap fails easily into place and isn't hindered or require you to push it down onto the sample... results can be erroneous if so.

Is this the calibration fluid?

I have been using this one for almost two years. I like it but needs to be calibrated every other test. Use a 35ppt calibration solution to calibrate. I just purchased the Hanna handheld tester today because it seems a lot faster and more accurate. I check Salinity a couple times a day with my mixing station so we will see how it works out.

Yep, that's the stuff.

Buy the one you can afford, buy calibration fluid also (1.026), you'll be fine. I have no name brand and electronic type. I can get a reading quicker and accurate from refractometer by the time electronic one ready to test. True Story. ...Hahaha
