Maybe this is a silly question, but can I thaw frozen foods, combine together, and then refreeze for later use?

I have seen several posts on thawing and saving in the fridge for a few days, but nothing yet have I seen about refreezing.

Slice them up frozen into smaller containers and keep those in the freezer. Once thawed I always refrigerate and use.

Thank you. I assumed that would probably be the case...I never thaw and refreeze my own food... but thought I would check. I will probably just stick with something like LRS for now.

Seen treads to not refreeze but I do it all the time. Got myself some medium size ice cube trays with silicone bottoms. I add a cube of frozen and a same size chunk of brine shrimp to each cell. Let thaw until I can mash it up together. Add a few drops of Selcon food booster and top with RO water. Freeze and after frozen pop them out of trays to fill a quick grab cup in freezer.

I'm sure it will be ok to refreeze (unless you have picky fish) - I just tend to keep everything frozen until it's time to be used.

I've been known to leave bags of food on the counter and forget about them and have refrozen them with no I'll effects. It wasn't over night but long enough they were fully thawed. I'm not pitching $60 worth of mysys as that would cut into my alcohol allowance. But then again if it weren't for the alcohol I probably wouldn't have forgotten :thinking-face: Best thing would probably be to cut chunks up while frozen and toss the mix into a single zip lock bag and toss back in the freezer.

I like that idea. I imagine that as long as it is not completely thawed, there would be no issues with refreezing it that way.

LOL... I think you and I are on the same page ;)

When we go to the grocery... they sell chicken and fish and such that was previously frozen and now thawed/cold. I will buy them and pop them in the freezer as I am sure many people do... sooo?

I would just thaw it in cold water if you are going to refreeze.

I refreeze all my food, using reefcicle from SmarterReef, but I thaw the cubes i the refrigerator, in some RO water, ensuring the temperatur never is above 4 degree celsius (39.2 fahrenheit).

Not sure why refreezing would be an issue. I never see a reason posted for not doing it. Maybe it’s the aquarium hobby equivalent of an old wive’s tale.
