I’ve only got 3 fish, I use frozen food, the blister packs, I defrost 2-3 different cubes at a time, to give the fish a bit of variety but a lot is going to waste, I was thinking I could refreeze the leftovers? Would this be ok and what would be the best method, I was thinking to mix with RO water, or would salt water be better, I have a tiny ice cube tray I could use.

freezing and refreezing breaks down the cell walls and make food taste different, but I do not know if it impacts nutritional value. Another issue is bacteria. as soon as something is thawed the clock starts for bacterial growth, and even refreeezing it won't necessarily kill any baddies that may grab hold.

My method for thawing cubes is in a cup of tank water a few minutes before feeding, then I swish it around and break it up with a baster, which I serve with.

another idea on the cubes is to cut them in half while frozen and put the frozen half back. won't be nearly as hard on the product as thawing.

let us know how it goes!

Watching, it’s a great question. I just started refrigerating my food concoctions this week. A mix of Red Sea ab+, phyto, reefroids, benepets, frozen mysis and rodis.. but I’d like to keep a longer supply.

thanks didn’t think of those points.

yeah cutting them up is a great idea, not sure why I didn’t think of that, I should be able to chop each cube in 3 easy enough, will be a lot easier than messing about with refreezing too, thanks :)

I wouldnt because of bacteria personally. I normally pull out 3 cubes of each food and cut them into 1/4 pieces and do a half total cube of mixed food twice a day for 4 fish. Freeze the rest after pulling my 2 x 1/4 cuts.

I just use the LRS frozen food, it comes in a big frozen sheet so you chisel off exactly how much you need. It’s been great because I raised my clownfish from <1” to almost 3” now and I was able to give them more food with no waste :)

and a tip on cutting them. I cover it w/ a paper towel and cut through w/ the knife because the frozen bits tend to fly all over the place. ;)

You would have to go and mention that, I knew someone would , I’m in the UK we can’t get it over here, I read a post on here from the owner, he said he tried getting it in the UK but the EU wouldn’t allow it, now we have left the EU hopefully he should be able to get it here soon.
