So currently I am acclimating an aquaclear 50 into my 20 long saltwater tank. I also have an aquaclear 20. i believe my tank could use a refugium as I noticing algae growth in my sand since I added the newest light.
My question is, can I use a combo of the 50 and 20 with one being stock filter media and turning the other into a refugium with light and chaeto/pods?

thanks in advance

You certainly can.

The real question is, how useful would it be? You can't get much chaeto in an aquaclear 20. And even though it may not help much, it almost couldn't hurt to try!

Personally I'd love to hear your results. I'm going to set up my 16g spare tank again. I use if for things I collect off the beach or snorkeling in the Keys and I don't want them in my 90g DT... until I know they are safe! So the 16g will not be hooked into my sump/fuge. I run an aquaclear 50 and if your idea works, I'd get a 2nd one and do the same thing!

I could do the refuge in the 50 and run the 20 as normal filter too. It would prob work better.

It would be a better fuge, but the 20 would be less filtration, but that you can deal with by filter cleaning.

I’m going to do the 50 as a refugium and leave the 20 a side filter.
