I have an eshoppes RS-100 sump with a CPR large backpack fuge acrylic welded to the side.
There is a ball valve from the first chamber that is used to control the flow of raw tank water through the fuge. it then runs the full length of the sump and returns through a bulkhead fitting directly into the return pump. The fuge itself is 24"x4.5Wx12T Filter socks, skimmer return pump and everything else is in the actual sump. so the fuge is a completely separate tank essentially.
I was originally planning on running a DSB in the fuge with macro on the top. After adding 4-5" of sand and a big wad of macro, i'm realizing just how small the space is.
Now i'm considering cutting a piece of acrylic 6-8" tall and putting it in the last 1/2-1/3 of the sump leaving the first part with a SSB and the macro. No real reason for the DSB other then i've never had one and i want to try one on a small scale. see what it does.

Yeah I see how you added the fuge. My cabinet doesn’t have all that extra space. My options are either a skimmer or a fuge so I went with the skimmer and added a small fuge reactor.
