Hi

Been running the Triton method in my 600L (120G) tank for a year now and im getting good results.

I feel that my refugium could be better. I have a high flow/turnover at 6000L/Hr (1200G/Hr) with all three down pipes landing in the refugium.

I have a bare bottom to this refugium, no sand, no rubble.

I have 2 x 9" porous media plates sat on top of egg crate, with another egg crate box on top of that full of round balls of the same porous media (pic to follow below).

Should I divert the main downpipe and add a glass plate to have a high flow area and a low flow area? I think this may help me have some detritus drop out of the water column, which is a persistent issue. That way i can add sand and rubble etc.

Thoughts?

I could add a panel left to right along the back, as this down pipe has 90% of the flow.

OR

I could a panel from front to back to enclose all three pipes to add another section to slow the flow more.

I think it’s a question of how much flow I want in the sump.

ideas?

Anyone got advice here? Should I add rubble to the bottom or leave it as is?!
