If I have a 10% refugium is 10% percent of the total display volume flow more or less necessary than if I had a 20% refugium.

I do have that correct dont I? Base the flow off of the display colume and the refugium size off of total water volume.

I ask because I am only ably to get 5 times display volume with my current M1 vectra on an actual display gallons of 120 gallons. Current flow via a Apex flow module is only 640gph.

I am in no way an expert but I believe both are based off of display volume. I've just been doing a lot of research on using this method.

Ten times system flow will be 22 gallons a minute through my 40 breeder sump. That is a ton of flow.

The 10 times system flow doesn't have any exceptions, like using an H380 light or only having a 10 percent of tank size refugium. I suppose i really need the high flow since I have the minimally sized refugium?

The algae refugium section of your sump should be 10-20% of the display volume so in your case 12-24G

Flow should be full system turnover of 10x per hour.

If you cannot achieve this then it will still work but there will be sacrifices to efficiency.
