Hello all ! so new to this, I made a small refugium sump 10 gal ( LOL ) I have the return pump .. this is for a 45 Reef bow. other than drilling a hole in the back of the tank for a feed, to fill up the sump. is there any other way. I piped 1/2 pvc for the return, and piped one back to the sump thinking a siphon of sort, but truly having my doubts ! any help would be greatly appreciated .

Bump for those more knowledgeable on Refugiums.

I run a eshopps siphon overflow on my 75. Of course you could always drill for an overflow. My eshopps has been great so far. Also lifereef is probably the Cadillac of siphon overflow.

I've use eshopps overflow for 1.5 years with no problem. I would recommend it.

thanks so much ! will look into them , today. just ordered sand and miracle mud . so I figure I have 4 days to get this running .. another ? should I expect to see a nitrite and nitrate jump .. being that I am adding a new tank ?

I didn't see any noticeable changes. My tank was running about 2 months before I added sump/refugium. Actually my water was good with just a cpr bakpak hang on the back skimmer. My biggest reason for adding was to hide equipment, and grow pods.

You might try a diy hob overflow. Really easy to make and very reliable.

I also recommend you have a sump area and separate refugium area.

You might also consider an in tank refugium. I just crammed in 1/4 sq plastic grid (egg crate) 3" in front of my back glass on my 55g. And added some old cheapie shop lights behind the tank pointing forward to provide light.
That formed a refugium behind the main display and nitrates dropped to unmeasureable in 3 weeks and phosphates a few weeks later.
Meanwhile the refugium provided food for my tangs and pods for the other fish.
