How would I go about starting one in this sump? I will have a bm curve 5 in there and a dd phosphate reactor.

Looks a little small for a useful refugium. Also, might the light used to grow your algae not spill over and grow algae everywhere (unwanted places). In that front area, could you place a small DIY ‘waterfall’ type algae scrubber; the light would shine only on the screen. Maybe other people will have other ideas for you. Best wishes as you move forward!

Thanks for the input. The light I intend to use will be added later. Is it essentially the same as treating it as a second tank with cheto growing?

Not completely sure about your question, but I was referring to building a tiny version of this to sit in what appears (from your photo) to be a 3” wide by 12” long front section of your sump.

Hello Lowery. I gotta agree with Jumbo . There really isn't a lot of room. An algae scrubber can be very effective & compact . The lighting is isolated from the rest of the sump .
That sump has a "bunch" of compartments. Wonder how it all works.
