Hello all

I Added Cheto and a light to my sump about a month ago. I have a cyano outbreak on my main display. But now my sump is looking pretty bad with cyano and green hair. And not sure If there’s Dino’s. Is this normal?

What are your parameters? Nitrate phosphate calcium specific gravity dkh and temperature.

How old is the tank, size

What does the DT look like?

It looks like you need to clean your sump. I would go ahead and get the sump clean before I would go much further. Removing the detritus and algae means less nutrients in the tank as a whole. Also, get the hair algae off the walls. That way the chaeto isn’t fighting other algae in the refugium. By keeping the sump clean, you have one less area collecting decomposing material.

My tank is about 9 months old. Started in May. It’s a Red Sea reefer 250.
Nitrate ranges from 0-5ppm
Phosphate is about .3
Calcium is about 400-420
Dkh is about 10
Salinity is about 1.026
77 degrees
The refugium has helped. My nitrates used to range from 10-20. Now it’s holding around 5ppm.
