Refugium in a Waterbox AIO 50.3

Has anyone put a refugium into a Waterbox AIO 50.3? If no, any suggestions for me? I do not have space behind the aquarium though. If yes, what did you do?

Any input is appreciated.

Sorry, for the late reply. I had it running in one of the chambers for about 4 weeks but it was messy. The algae growth in the chamber, next to the inflow was a mess and it was difficult to clean, and there was a mess in the return chamber. I use now one Intank media basket and I will add another one for the other Intake chamber. I reached out to BRS today and inquired about the PhytoTank Macroalgae Chaeto Reactor - Poseidon Reef Systems . I had questions about what pump to use and if this would work for my tank. I keep you posted on what they say.

Did you ever set anything up? Got the same tank along with an Intank media basket. Thinking of using that along with an Innovative Marine Chaetomax light.

Thanks for the reply and interesting. I'm planning to give it a go by using the 2nd chamber on the 50.3. Going to use a Tunze Eco Chic refugium light which is submersible. I have a sponge at the bottom as a barrier between the 2nd chamber and return pump chamber. Will see how messy it gets if any. I'll probably keep a daily eye on it initially. If the chaeto gets too out of control I might make a DIY basket of some type, maybe something circular or cylinder like so I can rotate it daily. Just ideas. I'll just try the free floating chaeto at first.

Sounds interesting and good luck. For me it wasn’t the Chaeto. It was more the other algae that started to build up in that chamber. I order my items yesterday. I will send you a picture when it is set up.

Hello, it works great. I did have to spend some time at Lowe's to get shutoff valves. The 1/2 inch piping I got from BRS. I am using a SICCE Syncra 1.0 because I couldn't go much over 250 gph but needed H. max 5 ft. I see good results in reducing Phosphate and Nitrate.

No, not really. I am dosing to maintain the 8.3 pH.

I have the 50.3 and use a CPR Aquafuge hob refugium. I got the medium size but the other sizes would probably work too. I really like it and I use a small tray of miracle mud and chaeto.

I just noticed about not having room in the back. I would have to check but the small version would probably work hanging off the side of the tank

Chaeto is growing like crazy. I give the excess back to my LFS, and I get some free stuff in exchange.

Yes, it starts off like that but then disappears. I have to do little cleaning when removing chaeto.
