Hi all, I am starting my list of things I need for my refugium... currently I have my skimmer and return pump only. I am curious what everyone has as far as "live" stuff. What do you recommend? I was going to have rubble and chaeto, but am wondering if sand, mud, bio-blocks or other stuff is better/more efficient. I would like to add some fancy macro algae later possibly for my tang to enjoy. I have time to plan so I am. The tank is not up yet of course. I think it is still a couple months away.

i’d say bio blocks because refugium sand/mud is a huge pain when u have to clean it or take down the tank. i heard bio blocks remove nitrates too so that’s a plus

yeah so you can cover the bottom with bio blocks then whatever live rocks on top in case you would like to set up a nano or pico in the future it certainly helps to have small pieces of live rock on hand

In my fuge, I have a 4” sandbed. On top of that I have a couple pieces of rock and as far as macros go I have feather caulerpa, caulerpa prolifera, chaeto, and ulva (sea lettuce). The only big animals I have are cerith snails to help stir the sandbed. Of course there are also lots of pods, bristleworms, and even some mysid shrimp.
