How high should my light be from the water surface? The idea of the fuge light is to grow algae in the refugium so that it can out compete nuisance algae in the tank. Also to help reduce pH swings in the system when run on a reverse lighting cycle. Having a strong light over the fuge with Macro algae growing should reduce or eliminate most algae outbreaks in the DT, once the fuge is established.
Keep in mind, you may need to adjust your fuge light schedule to match your tanks parameters and needs. If the Macro algae is reducing P04 and N03 too much, reduce the photoperiod of the fuge. If it is not reducing enough, increase photoperiod.
I have my UFO light appx 5"-6" from water for caulerpaHow high should my light be from the water surface?
I have the exact same light and experiencing the same issue. My chaeto grows like crazy but am getting green and brown algae in my DT now when I never had it before I added the UFO light. Previously was running for about 10 - 12 hours but have cut back to 8 for now. I think I need to cut down the time on the UFO even more and supplement with a smaller white/blue light for additional time.Hey reefers I just got a 150w ufo grow light for the refugium.
