Hello.

I decided to use proximity 16 for a refugium light
Is it a good choice?

Yes I use one. What type of macroalgae are you planning to use (this can help me pick light settings for you)?

I would also try to get it closer to the water to increase the par.

Please don't scream :)

I am new to tank
Almost done cycling
So , I definitely want to do copypods and whatever you recommend, cheatos?

Well if you can get clean chaeto, I would run all of the channels at max except for green and white (no green, and use white with whatever power is left). If you use red macroalgae (red ogo gracilaria is nice), I would have the green at max). I run my refugium light off for 5 hours mid day and on for the rest for the purpose of giving the LED's a break.

My only other advice is to dose something like chaetogro.

Thank you,

I appreciate your help.

just one other question
Calcium or alkalinity ( I think alkalinity) is making my sand hard, and white substance in ATP and wave makers
it is called precipitates as far I know.
I googled, that it is a overdosing or low flow issue ( dosing in the ATP)
Do you have any ideas how to clean it, some of them are ready hard to brush

thank you

Are you dosing at the moment? I wouldn't think you would be since you are cycling. I am not sure why you would have precipitation.

Out of curiosity, what salt do you use and at what salinity?

well, it is complicated
the slat water I got has had very low ALK, MAG, and CAL really bad
ALK was below 6
CALC 200 someting
MAG below 900
not sure what salt it was, I got it delivered, the SAL level was like 21 ppm

so I was able to rise it all up nice, I did it dosing a lot, since there was no lifestock
SALT 34
ALK 8.5
CA 458
MAG1383
PH 8.2
TEMP 78 stable

I started dosing a little using DOS , because the ALK is dropping during the day.

the cycling is basically done, I just keep it till end of the week before water change
ammonia shows 0

I decided to go with red sea salt pro coral mix, because the ALK is 11.5

so I guess I overdosed and mixed, well not a big deal I think, no fished in the tank yet, but the white stuff I had to scrub from the glass, and on the wave makres

some snow in the sump uhhh

I know that if you use soda ash for alk and dose a large amount at once you can make sand rock. I did that and now have a cool cave structure for my diamond goby lol
