Refugium lights

Wondering if I should try to have my par higher in my refugium than in my tank. And if my fuge should be before or after my skimmer, or if it matters?

What do you plan to grow in your refugium, and why do you want the PAR higher? Positives and negatives for what order to put them in. Refugium before means your pod population might go through your skimmer. Refugium after your skimmer means fewer nutrients for your macro to pull out, as the skimmer may have done it for you. There is lots of debate on both of those and whether it matters.

My fuge and ats are lit by a clamp on reflector like from the hardware store and a 40w flourescent house bulb.

I have used one of these grow lights for years now. Plenty strong enough and grows macro algae like crazy! They are not available now but one like it will work. I have it on an adjustable mount about 4-5 inches above the fuge.
