So what kind of maintenance does everyone do with their sump?

Personally, I leave it how it is and only pull the chaeto when needed. I've been thinking about cleaning the glass, but I'm not sure if it would be beneficial for the pods and such living in there. Vote for everything you do!

I run a Tunze Macro reactor outside my sump. Super easy maintenance. Pull Chaeto every 2-3wk. Unplug the light and pump from the controller to scrub it out in the sink every 4 months if needed.

I checked other... I dump and clean the skimmer cup every once in a while and change filter socks when they clog if I'm using them. That's it. I have a cryptic fuge (rocks in the dark) in the first bay, the skimmer in the second and a return pump and a circulation pump in the return bay.

I do remove the skimmer, return, and circulation pumps for cleaning about once a quarter.

Other here because I really do nothing. I need to harvest some chaeto but there is so much life in there I hate to harvest it because I always end up loosing micro brittle stars along with pods etc. I've only cleaned the fuge once and that was because I tried running sockless and the chaeto got so full of detritus I had to pull it and start with a new batch.

Heres how I do my fuge maybe once every couple months during a WC.
- clean front glass only. Algae on walls is good IMO.
- pull macro, harvest whats needed. Clean remaining.
-Stir up detritus/ algae on bottom and rocks
- toss a micro pump in (my sump is on the floor) and suck out the dirty water

simmer in the first section, pump, and bio bricks in the second along with a light to grow algae any kind of algae, a turbo snail, and then a return pump and small circulation pump in the last section to keep detritus suspended until my skimmer takes it out

My fuge is above to the side of my display. It’s basically a macro algae nano Xenia pods nems “bad clown” collerpa that I harvest and feed the tangs, pods fall off and dragonet gets them…. One big ecosystem here.

For my sump I have a SICCE PRO creating movement and sucking up anything that gets past my ReefMat. Then I feed the excess cheato to my tangs up top. It's an endless and beautiful cycle that requires little to no work. Only work on my end is changing the ReefMat every few months.

I wish I had micro brittles. I had them in my first tank, but sold it years ago.
