Hello all, 2 fold question about refugium lighting. I have a regium integrated into my sump with a dsb. I just put cheato in it. My light is an ai prime. I happened to have one laying around from a previous tank. Question 1: what wattage should I be running it at? The light maxes out at 40 watts. Question 2: how long should I be running the light for? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Won't be able to answer your questions directly, but with my current setup (i'm only a couple months into the hobby and as low cost as possible) I have a refugium with chaeto and sea lettuce in it. I also crammed a nano protein skimmer in there as well, but i digress. Back on point, I run a two bulb T5 coralife on top of my refugium, specs here, 6watts per bulb (10,000k and actinic bluelight bulbs).
With my current setup, the lights on the refugium are on whenever the lights on the DT are off. My sea lettuce grows like crazy and I'm getting ready to take some out. My chaeto needs a closer look as I haven't noticed a change, but also haven't looked at it daily. Hope some of that info helps.

I've found a 12 hr cycle opposite to the display time works well for me. I was using a 32w kessil on my refugium and the gracalaria grew like crazy, but the chaeto always died. The refugium was also just disgusting all around using the kessil, I switched to a 14w par38 and it's doing much better. I would start the prime somewhere around 10-14w if you are going with chaeto.
