Refugium off Drain or Manifold

I am debating whether to place a fuge first thing before the sump VS past the socks and skimmer off a manifold which drains back into the sump. What do you all think? If you think it should come first, would you place a sock before it?

Personally I wouldn't put anything before the socks or floss. You'll just end up with piles of rotten food and detritus breaking down there, working against what the refugium is supposed to do.

Many people choose to put the fuge after the socks and skimmer so that any critters like pods can live in the fuge and then a few will go through the return pump into the DT.
