Refugium question......

Newis tank been up and running for 2 months now. Have a refugium with macro algae growing in it. Have miracle mud and everything seemed to be running fine. Within the past week I have noticed this algae growing in the sump. No where else do I see this algae growing. Please help..... don't know if it's good bad. I just don't know.

Also its just growing on the top layer. Blackish brownis purplish. Releases bubbles when I remove it.

It looks like Cyanobacteria to me. This is pretty common for new tanks, especially in areas where the circulation is not really up to par..

Well it's definitely not something we want to see in our display tanks, but the fact that it's only growing in your refugium is ok I guess. As long as your parameters are within reason this stuff usually runs it's course given time. GL

I can't say for sure it is your issue, but miracle mud when I tried it created a lot of nuissance algae issues in a tank that was very established to the point of being what I call on auto pilot, rarely needed even cleaning.
I removed the mud and problems went away.
I will agree many new tanks do have issues until they balance out, could simply be that, hard to say.

Ok..... I guess I'll keep any eye on it..... should I try to remove it?

Put chaeto in your fuge with a light running opposite the dt it will eat up the nutrients that feed it
