if I try and run my drain lines without socks I get a ton of air bubbles. Is this normal? Will the Triton method still be effective if I decide to run with filter socks?

You may be drawing in too much air with your drains, can you adjust? How many drains do you run?

You can use filter sock should you wish but you may reduce the effectiveness of your algae refugium by reducing the food that gets to the algae.

Possibly, I would concentrate on finding the reason you are sucking down air in your drains first though...

I have 2 1” stockman standpipes. I played with the air lines on the standpipes and this is about as good as I can get it. I have an elbow in the end of the line without the filter sock. It’s aimed at the back wall to try and prevent the salt spray and creep from the bubbles. I cannot get the chaeto to tumble though. Setting up the refugium is step one. I plan on starting with the dosing in October.

Sorry I’m not too familiar with “stockman” stand pipes perhaps someone else can chime in. Do you have one running at 99.9% syphon with the other taking the remainder?

One seems to be about 75% of the flow he other 25%. They are Equal height in the overflow box.

Water flows under the cap through holes drilled in the pipe. Supposed to prevent snails and junk from entering the sump.
