refugium question

I have a 110 gallon tall mixed reef aquarium. looking to add a refugium but I do not have room in my eshopps sump. looking to possibly add a HOB refugium. the question is would the medium size HOB fuge do the trick for my tank size??

When it comes to refugiums, I always say bigger is better

Even a small refugium is better than no refugium I just used a pile of rocks in the corner of my tank for 2 years.

No problemo
It’s never pointless. People get refugiums for different reasons:
1 - pods - you can’t go wrong. They don’t need much room
2 - natural filtration vessel ie macro algae. According to my limited research, the amount of macro algae required to make a substantial contribution to water quality is prohibitively high.
3 - somewhere to grow macro algae to feed to fish as a snack.

It’s important to consider why you want one. Personally, I’d love a giant refugium with tons of snackable macro algae and pods w a nice deep sandbed. No room in my sump either. I’m considering a Display Refugium. Have you thought about that at all as an option at all?

I've got a 20 gal that I'm going to plumb into my 60 cube as a display refugium. Probably gonna keep a mantis shrimp in there too. Gonna be a fun little project
