I am thinking of running a refugium separate from my sump on my next build. Anyone else doing it this way? Would like to see some pictures to get some ideas! How much flow should I have through the refugium? Thank you!

I use a 20 gallon long as my fuge. I drilled it for an overflow and fill it with a MJ1200. I have a cheapo Chinese Amazon LED light strip above it that I run 7pm to 7am, counter to daylight to stabilize pH. I pull 2 or 3 gallons of chaeto off it a month. For anyone that has the room, it is absolutely the way to go. Nutrient export is fantastic.

Thank you for your response. I have a refugium on my current build and it’s hard to keep the algae in its section.

I run a dedicated refugium tank on my system. The flow is just a few hundred GPH since the pump that runs the refugium also runs my UV sterilizer. I run the lights for ~16 hours a day where they come on early in the morning ~6am and turn off around the same time as the display lights 10:30pm. I used to run the reverse day/night cycle but I need darkness for bioluminescence viewing. Having a dedicated tank is nice as I just let the algae run wild without any concerns. I attached some older pics but you get the idea.
