Hope this is the right place to post this. I’ve read several different views on the size of your refugium compared to your Aquarium. Is there a rule of thumb for the size of the refugiums like one for your sump size. that your sump should be at the minimum 10% of your aquarium volume? Thanks

hi larger the tank larger the fuge ,don't know of any rule of thumb,in the reef world bigger is better happy reefing

As big as you can. but most importantly your light has to be somewhat comparable to your display tank in terms of power if you want the macroalgae to outcompete algae in the tank.

The bigger the better. Have a 55 on my 220, with separate 30 long sump. Have not needed a wc in years.
With somethings in this hobby bigger is not better. Skimmer and return pump come to mind.

The 10% rule comes in if you are going to do the Trident method which calls for a fuge that is 10% of your tank size. But as others have mentioned, go as big as you can go.
Trident method put fuge before skimmer in sump layout. They also add fertilizer in their supplies, unless you use their ‘other method’. They suggest less macro harvesting because decaying macro re-releases elements as part of their plan.

With that said imo if you go smaller than 10% you’re not doing much more than a lil pod protection, lil more water volume, and lil more ph stability

If you mostly want fuge for nutrient control and space is an issue you can do ats or macro reactor
