Refugium starting to get bad

My chaeto was growing very weel for about 3 weeks. Now it is beginning to be covered in slime and GHA is growing well. I scraped the fuge last night and removed most of the GHA. I cut the light time from 10hrs down to 6. Should I rinse the chaeto out before my next water change? Can I add the extra special grade sand I have left over, or should I get oolite sand, and why a fine grade sand for fuges?

I think you should try some flux rx for hair algae, and then start dosing something like chaetogro (or do both at the same time since they are not related). Ever since I started dosing that I have had amazing success with my refugium and haven't had hair algae in there for months.

Is it only in the fuge your are seeing this stuff? If the display is still clean to me its doing exactly what you want. When I had a fuge on my tank the thing was gross with all sorts of stuffing growing. I was fine with it as long as its not in the display.

That would be awesome, but my chaeto is shrinking and not looking as good.
