Refugium / Sump advice?!

Hey Guys!

I am in the design phase for my brand new fish room for my 175 gallon reef. Through my research, I have read a lot about Refugiums and Sumps but I am a bit confused as to why I would need one. My tank is perfectly fine without it now but I want to do the job right once and for all.


Who makes the best one? What model would you recommend for my use case?

I made my own from a 55 gallon tank. I like my refugium because it allows me to segregate problematic animals as well as gives me a place for dosing chemical addition. What kind of tank setup do you currently have?

Sumps allow you to place equipment like Protein Skimmer, heaters, etc in a location separate from your tank. It also increases water volume which is advantageous as well. A refugium provides a safe place to grow macro algae and cultivate pods.
