Refugium un small sump?

Hello there, I've got a all 25" x 13.5" inches (12 gallons at 8" deep).

I've got small space into this boy and I'll add a 10 gallons ATO next to it.

I want to know if there's any way adding a refugium in this?
Is there a specific placement for a pods hotel regarding the flow?

Is there something you'd add in that sump?

The return section of the sump is plenty large to be used as a refugium ... if you change to an external return pump (i.e. drill a hole in the sump and install a bulkhead fitting to the inlet of the pump)

That will also increase the running water level in the skimmer chamber which will help your skimmer perform better.

As for anything to add to the sump, I don't see a heater anywhere ... you could add it either in the baffle section between the skimmer chamber and the return chamber, or in the return chamber itself (even if you do use that chamber as a refugium).

Also, I'd think about a place where you could place some GAC - if you don't want to add a reactor, I'd think about putting it in the baffle space and moving the heater into the return section/refugium
