Hi
I am DIY person and I like doing and upgrading stuff. On my early stage in this hobby I noticed there is something like algae scrubber which helps with algae in DT - the problem I don't have yet.
What I read so far, there is no point to install algae scrubber if there is already refugium with chaeto. I would like to know if there is anyone here who has such setup (refugium with chaeto + algae scrubber) and if so, do you see any benefits of such setup?

I vote an algae scrubber with gha over Chaeto. Don’t get me wrong... Chaeto works but gha is just so dang easy to grow and imo does better.

if you do the scrubber route i suggest diy

I'm curious to know if having both would be beneficial?

I wouldn't think there would be a need for both sense they do the same unless you have a refug that isn't big enough and not working. I do love my scrubber and it has made a big different in my tank. I went with the IceCap scrubber and love it. The price I couldnt justify doing a DIY over it.

I dont know of anyone that has both that I can recall.

The turf scrubber will probably out compete the cheato and it will melt. That being said I run cheato just because I have the space and it’s easier.

If you feed enough or have very heavy bio load you could grow it all, It’s all about Balance. But why complicate the system. The easier to maintain the more likely it will get done.
