I am in the process of setting up my system. I am running a stand alone Fuge with my sump so I can control the flow.

What are people using for a substrate? My goal is to grow some pods in it and some Chaeto....

People either have shallow sand, deep sand, crushed coral, miracle mud, or go without substrate. I choose to go without substrate so I can vacuum out my sump. I think shallow sand is fine as well.

Okay so I have progressed with this. I have a 75 gallon sump and also have a 20 Long Fuge - I am doing a deep sand bed, I want to do pods - chaeto and get some mangroves growing.

So here is the question - lighting? I want inexpensive and easy. It is in a sump room the beams are exposed so I can hang a light with no problems.

My god man... 75g sump? What are you working on?

As for substrate, I'd probably go with 3 to 4 inches of OceanDirect Oolite. That'll make for nearly 90 pounds of sand I'd imagine.

Personally, I'd skip the mangroves.

Ha ha - yeah - I know. actually it is not overkill - I am running 2 tanks with it - a 100 gallon reef and a 120 gallon FOWLR tank. As far as mangroves the wife wans them sooooo they are in. No windows in that room. I was looking at a t5 grow light but think it is overkill - I see a bunch of LED grow light bulbs on ebay but not to sure about them. I did see a LED grow light bulb at Home Depot but its $50 for the bulb and probably the same thing as the $10 ebay ones.
