I been running a refugium with a couple inches of sand and now about to change to bigger sump/ refugium . What is the opinion of sand and rock rubble or no sand and.rock an cheato onlyl

I don't use sand, I've got about 12lbs of rubble and another 15lbs of rock, along with cheato, dragons breath, red Graciela and a couple others. My fuge light runs opposite my display lights and everything is doing fine....have to supplement feedings of my starry blenny with cuttings of my algae because nothing grows in the dt.

I've Heard good things and bad about using sand so I was trying to decide whether to put sand in this one or not I was leaning toward not

With out sand you've got the option of keeping a high flow to keep detritus suspended and enhance skimmer performance

I've never really been a big fan of refugiums to begin with, but just like everything else in this hobby they need to be kept clean. Going BB with a couple softball size pieces of live rock and some chato just sounds like it would be a lot easier to maintain. GL.

Sounds like that's what I'll be doing like refugium because it helps keep ph stable sense I run calcium reactor plus takes up co2

I've never been a fan either until I tried it with this tank.

I like the more natural approach to nutrient export, cheato can be a money maker as well as some of the other "display" algae.

Plus it's like you're growing the best tang snacks ever ask the time lol

Coming along tomorrow plumbing

Is it safe to but A piece of vinyl mat under pumps

BRS sells some rubber mats you could put under your pumps but they are just drying mats you can pickup at Walmart. They claim it will vibration and noises and you can place them under pumps, skimmers, or whatever else you need silenced in your tank. However just as a caution I was going to use one under my skimmer because I am running it on a platform and it created problems not letting the skimmer work properly so I had to remove it. Not saying that it will always create problems but it did in my situation.
