I am looking for a Refugium light for my 60-gallon cube build. I have the Eshopps Medium Cube sump. I was looking at the H380 by kessil. Anyone care to give me any other suggestions I hate to buy that not getting a second look at other good choices?

Many thanks
Jerry

I've been reading the reviews and for a 300 dollar light, they don't love it on BRS website some say it kills more than grows maybe they run it too long or too close to the Refugium. But with the responses here I feel like giving it a try. It's not too much light for the Cube Medium sump from Eshopps?

All depends on how high above the water the light will be.

I run 18 hours day. My frag dragon breath is a half tank size in 2 month. Almost 20inch above water

while there is truth to this I made the jump from a 15w kessil h80 to a 90w kessil h380 and didn't change the operating height or photoperiod at all. I was a little shocked the next morning to find no damage to my chaeto at all. both were sitting 8" above the water.

I didn't have enough room for the H380, I just didn't know it until I saw the burnt/bleached cheato. I had less than 5 inches between water and light. I glued an AP700 diffuser to the light and was good. At the time I was also using ulva lettuce.

I have the same question but with a little different twist.

I will setup a fuge for my 75G reef tank. The sump is a 30g Trigger and the fuge section is about 9'x 15 inches across. At some point later, I plan to with the Triton system. For this size sump, is the H380 overkill or do I need that power for Triton? Also, I will most likely install the light above the sump (bottom of DT tank platform) and it will be about 15-20 inches from the top of the water. I can adjust the distance, but only a few inches due to the design of my system.

Thoughts on which to go with: Kessil H80 or H380?

Thanks,
Steve

In my own experience, definitely go H380. The 13 watts that the H80 puts out wasn't enough to out compete the display tank for nutrients.
