Im torn between making my own refugium on my next tank or buying a premade one from a LFS. which I believe they carry eshopps refugiums. recommendations. or would it be smarter to just use a 20 long that I have sitting around unused?

Not knowing the length of your DT. I would go with as big as you can. It is incredibly easy to make your own baffles. I just went to a glass company and they cut the pieces for me. That way you can make the compartments any size you want. On mine I used a standard 75g and I made a 22"x18" refugium that drains into the center chamber housing the return pump and skimmer. You could easily do this on a smaller scale for under $50 with silicone. Good luck with your addition!
