my nitrates are very highIf your chaeto died its probably because you do not have enough nutrients in the tank and you will probably have the same issues with other macro algaes. Or you don't have sufficient lighting.
i have a refugium setup and was planning on just putting it on the bottom and pointing a wave maker at itI currently have Sea Lettuce (Ulva Lactuca) in my sump. I keep it in a pond plant basket (). I get the basket to float by zip tying some (artificial) wine bottle corks to the top edge of the basket. I keep it this way as it grows in sheets and can easily clog an overflow or a return pump. I keep a pump pointed at the basket to improve water circulation in it. Once a week I turn the lettuce over to keep it better lit. I have yet to try Ulva Intestinalis, as it hasn't been easy to come by.
Unfortunately, my herbivores prefer Nori sheets to this fresh lettuce.

umm i think its a kessil its a good light made for the refugiumThink you're gonna want something to weigh it down with, as I believe it will float which is why it tends to clog things up. Make sure you have a good light though, what light are you wanting to run on it?
OH great! That would be a great light for the algae. Much better then a small cfl bulb lol! (which, to be fair, does grow algae but not nearly as good)umm i think its a kessil its a good light made for the refugium
just put it into the tank my refugium is long so some of it is kinda tumbling but some gets stuck on the power head or gets pushed behind itOH great! That would be a great light for the algae. Much better then a small cfl bulb lol! (which, to be fair, does grow algae but not nearly as good)
If you have any screen or egg crate laying around I think making a box to put around the powerhead would be helpful to keep it from getting in there. At least then if the powerhead sucks it up, no chance of it getting inside the pump!just put it into the tank my refugium is long so some of it is kinda tumbling but some gets stuck on the power head or gets pushed behind it
thats a good idea actually thanks!I use a small hatchery isolation container in my sump as a refugium. There's not enough flow through it to keep chaeto, even with the top left open, but red dragon's breath grows like crazy. One benefit is that dragon's breath is beautiful, so I prune some and move it into the DT periodically, where it looks great until the snails eat it all.

You might notice I also drilled a hole in the side through which I directed the output from my UV sterilizer to try to obtain more flow to keep the chaeto alive.thats a good idea actually thanks!
Refugiums Are great the are a safe place for beneficial copepods and other animals to thrive and it removes nitrates and Po4 You might want to get some cheato grow tho because macro algae can stripe the systems of beneficial elements that corals need.Im getting some sea lettuce tomorrow and want to know how to set it up i tried to get chatoe running but it died which sucked.
ive already got the sea lettuce in thereRefugiums Are great the are a safe place for beneficial copepods and other animals to thrive and it removes nitrates and Po4 You might want to get some cheato grow tho because macro algae can stripe the systems of beneficial elements that corals need.
