So, I have been trying to make my refugium as effecient as I can. Currently I have a mixture of Marine Pure blocks and rubble in my refugium, However I am thinking about removing the rubble and making a "floor" of marine pure. I seem to build up a lot of detritus because of the rubble. Does anyone else have any opinions on this? How are yours set up?

My refugium has a 1/2" layer of detritus. The pods and bristle worms love it. I wouldn't make too many decisions based on detritus. It's inevitable really. Plus those marine pure blocks will end up getting clogged with detritus anyways.

For a refugium I would just keep what you already have going and focus on the algae.

Oh, and there is evidence out there of Maine pure blocks breaking down over time and leaching into the aquarium. Just some food for thought.

I have a big refugium with a real jungle of algae, derbesia, GHA all sorts.

My display keeps clean...
