Hello guys, iv'e bought a regal angel to my tank.

He has been 3 weeks in my lfs (quarantine), where he started eating brine shrimp, when i introduce it to my display, he stoped eating like he was.

after 4 days, he is eating like this...

Regal Angel (pygoplites diacanthus) started eating... - YouTube

What you guys think?

I tried with mussels, blood worms, nori (marron, red)...

Thank you!!!

You could try squid, clams, table shrimp, mysis. Have you tried clams or mussels on a shell? Maybe try soaking some food in garlic or selcon.

I had one that ate everything. Pellets flakes mysis. But then it shredded my corals!! Had to go lol

Nice feeding video. He'll take time warming up to the tankmates. Mine isn't a aggressive eater compared to tangs, but he'll get his fare share. Give it time and he'll be at the surface taking food from the baster. Keep us posted.

is this a red sea regal or indian ocean? Red sea is the hardiest..I had a IO before the red sea one and it died in 4 wks as it ate NOTHING..i tried everything and it just swam pass it...keep in mind, feeding is all about presentation...once you find something it likes to eat, keep giving it, and then sneak small amounts of other types food.

I have a 4.5 inch red sea regal from live aquaria that has been in a QT tank for a month and is eating great..however, it took 3-4 days before it ate anything.

things to try:

clam on the half shell
mysis shrimp
squid
krill

I soak ALL my food with Brighwell Angelixir...it is a sponge supplement, and my regal loves it..tore in a clam on the half shell with the angelixir on it..

Hello Salgator,

Well, i have 2 tang but atm they are in the sump, its a pbt and a zebrassoma flav.

I have all the tank to the regal, yesterday he ate some brine shrimp again, but i made a mixture with myssis. I saw him spiting the food sometimes...

I already have the squid, lets see how is the eating behaviour today. :)

At least, when i put the food on the tank, he starts to check if he likes it or not..seem that he have some appetite:)

Thank you!!

Hello, this is an indian ocean regal. Yes, my biggest concern now is to find something he likes to eat...which is a pain in ***...lol

Bruno,

agreed...I hope you find something..my experience with IO regal is most do not fair well in captivity..BUT keep trying to feed it...

I would read this article and pay specific attention to the text under the Selection section:

If he's eating brine (frozen),that's great. Mine will still spit out certain pieces of mysis (usually the head), but makes a attempt. He's not a fan of PE mysis, only the smaller mysis. Mine will also usually destroy a nori sheet with my other guys. He'll come around to pellets soon IMO. Also, if your rock is mature enough, turn over a couple (if possible) exposing sponges. Mine goes crazy when I'm rearranging rocks and a sponge becomes exposed. GL

Hello! :)

Well, my regal angel started eating pellets..(sera marine) well, i noticed too that his appetite increased since I moved the zebrassoma to the tank too, is it normal? He started to compete with food with him :)

Merry X-MAS :)

LRS that food is insane I have three new copperbands which are always finicky to get eating...all I can say is wow...they are fat and eating big chunks of food at every feeding......I am impressed with the product........

Yes this is normal...basically the tang is teaching the regal how to eat (and how to compete for food).

I cant get LRS where I live, so I use Rod's Food instead..basically the same thing and all my fish love it...
