Well I'm thinking of adding a regal angel to my tank and I wanted to get peoples feedback about them in reef tanks what their habbits are bassically what's your experiances with them thankyou! :ooh:

I have a regal in my tank for 3 months now. Beautiful fish. One of the most elegant fish there is. Make sure u qt it first. Mine went through 2 treatment of prazi and copper. I left him in qt for 5 weeks. Got him eating and fat first. He'll only eat mysis and brine though. Still working on the pellets and flakes. Regal are very skittish fish at the beginning. Mine after 2 weeks in the DT, finally got bold. Don't be worry if yours doesn't eat for 3-4 weeks.

Here's mine

I have 9 clams and plenty of sps in my tank. He doesn't touch any of it

Regal angel is one of the better choice for the reef tank. I used to have one healthy fat in the reef tank and I have never experienced it nippling at the coral at all until the tank upgrade. ..suk
but just bought a really nice one today. hopefully it starts eating soon..

I've had the pleasure of owning my regal for over 3 years now. He will nip at sps every once in awhile , but the main thing is to keep them well fed by feeding 3-5 times a day. LPS is another story. I can keep many lps but he loves scolymia and acans. Can't keep them anymore. The hardest part is getting them to eat, once that has been accomplished, they are very hardy.

+1 to nipping at scolys. the one i have in a clients tank leaves acans alone(check out my -another save from certain- thread)to see what a regal will do to scolys

Thanks for the hope on being able to keep my acans my regal tangs like to nip my acans and favias if I forget their nori

Every angelfish is different, if you plan on keeping angels then you will have to make sacrifices as to what corals you keep, because the fish will dictate that decision. There are no two ways about it.

I have a pair of regals in my display, and they love, zoanthids, xenia, cloves, and most LPS. That is why the tank only has SPS in it.

I've had a lot of different regals. Most of which I still have to date. I've always had good luck with these fish when I get them really small as juveniles. This seems to increase your chances as far as survival rates. Adults will survive in captivity but they seem to already have their dinner menu sitting in front of them and they know what they want. 99.9 percent of the time its going to be your coral. The juveniles will almost always start dining on your corals as well (at least your lps). They love eating the centers of coral or the mouth out of them. Good luck with your new adventure and remember its not the regal's fault when you wake up and your prized piece has a whole in the middle of it and your regal has ketchup on his face.

agreed are they easy to add pairs of if they are added as juveniles or should one be larger than the other I've decide I'm going to add them because I intended my tank to be specifically sps tank anyways so I will add then see what happens and if they start picking on the poor LPS I'll simply have to put my lps in the my lps tank

Mine paired up pretty quick. I was lucky to find a nice Juvi that ate heartily from the get go. I QT'd it for about a month and then added it to the DT. They fought a bit, but then started hanging out together and eating together, now, the aggression between the two is minimal.

I've found my regals to be the most chill of all the angels I have. They are only slightly aggressive and territorial.

Oh boy I'm getting all excited I really hope I don't get a couple of naughty fish but if I do I act accordingly and I guess finish converting my tank to fully sps
