Coming from freshwater tanks i saw a lot of region specific tanks where someone would try to mirror the flora and fauna of a specific region and make it as natural as possible. Does this happen much in the marine world? In my short time perusing these forums I haven't seen any threads on Caribbean specific tanks or Indo-Pacific tanks. Am i just blind or is there not really a big interest in it?

I think there is definitely some interest in "biotope" type tanks. I have a particular interest in Hawaiian species as there are so many of them that are endimic to there. The problem for me is there are so many beautiful and interesting species from a diverse collection of places that it makes it hard to limit myself to one region. #Ineedmoretanks!

Hopefully some folks who have those type tanks will chime in with some pictures!

The last tank I had before putting up my current reef display was an estuary tank. It wasn’t region specific, but it was really fun to do and great to observe. We live on an estuary and it just felt like home. I’m going back to that set up one day!

Biotope tanks are amazing. Your right though I don’t see many of them. I would love to have multiple displays; Red Sea biotope, GBR, indo, Caribbean. But like stated above it’s difficult to resist beautiful corals if they don’t match your biotope. Leading to blended biotopes. Which is still cool, just not as natural looking in most cases.

I have too many tanks also:

there are a few around I have seen over the years, most common is Caribbean.
you should do one. it is hard to just sick to one area tho. you will see unless you have a passion for that biotope.
Do you know of any Caribbean biotope threads? If so please send them!
