My lfs just got a big shipment of tank raised juvenile clowns, including a variety of maroon clownfish, which just so happen to be on my stock list, and I just so happen to be making the 600km round trip this weekend. (Yes, my 'local' fish store is anything but local) and am thinking I might pick me up a clown.
With the current and future planned inhabitants, I have decided a Maroon is the best bet, and they have all the varieties listed in the title at various prices. From what I have read, they all grow to the same size, require same diet and whatnot, which makes sense. I just want to confirm no variant is easier or harder to care for than another. Anyone have maroons of these types that they have pictures of?
That, and what are the logistics to think of keeping a small clownfish 1-1.5". My display is currently undergoing copper for Velvet, I have an eel in a separate system with my live rock sitting out the fallow period. Not exactly fallow, but the eel seems to be fighting off the infection on its own. Due to the small size, and risk of velvet, I can't keep it in that system either, which means I will have to improvise a small setup for at least a couple weeks. Will be getting a 110gal next Thursday, so the eel could go in there, and the clown could go in the eels system, after draining and cleaning.
What volume is suitable for one juvenile maroon? Can clowns be kept by themselves without issue? Or do y'all think it's just not a good time to get a clown? Leaning towards the latter, but my lfs doesn't get the maroon variants often.
