I have a 240 gallon tank and I am moving to a home with a crawl space how do I reinforce the floor. All Ideas are excepted. Thanks

Can you physically enter the space at all?? Does the crawl space have a dirt floor? Approximately how high from floor to ceiling?

I ask these questions because it will depend on the conditions .

Let's get some backup on this one the more heads in the game the better. #reefsquad

Your best option is really going to be to call in a civil engineer to review where you want the tank. You may not have to do anything to reinforce it, or it could become a challenge. The hardest part, and where a local engineer is most helpful, is if you need to run a new support to the ground. They should know the soil type and frost heave you are dealing with and be able to recommend the proper footer style for your area.

You might not need to reinforce anything... most houses are built to withstand waterbeds. Bookshelves actually have more weight per square foot than most aquariums.

Take the weight of your water (1,920) divided by the square feet of your stands footprint (width x length). I bet you are only around 80 - 100 lbs / ft.

A second getting a professional in - older houses have smaller joists that are not not built to withstand heavy weights or it might not have been built up to code (old house owner speaking from experience!) (old house, not old owner) (well, not too old).

I installed several screw jacks and shores from Ellis. They hold 10k-30k lbs depending on model. My floor slipped by 1/4" and I used the jacks to reinforce and also to push the floors back up. My house is a craftsman built in 1920 so it wasn't made to handle the weight of a fish tank. Worked wonderfully!!

This is a pic on their website.
