Hi all,

Just wanted to pick your brains. I am setting up a 60 gallon 24”x24”x24” tank above my basement. In the picture, the wall it is up against is over the main beam of my house. I then have 2x8 joists perpendicular on the beam to the foundation of my house every 16”. Unfortunately, there is alittle flex in the floor. I wonder if I double up the joists directly under the tank that would help with the flex?

Any pointers is definitely appreciated.

That is an option, your only looking at 600 +/- lbs. Check out Coreline adjustable jack post, or similar. Run a 4x4 from joist to joist at the outside edge of your tank and adjust to level. Pricey but rock solid. Hope this helps.

I was actually thinking of doing that. Only problem is I’m going to be finishing the basement in the next year and the tank will be moving to the basement lol. I guess I can work around the supports for the time being. Would sistering the joists help in the flex you think?

Scabbing the joists with 3/4" plywood is the best way I have found to stiffen up a floor.
