Hello ,

Thank you for taking the time to read this .So I noticed that one of my clown fish had a white milky film on him and also noticed that my Hippo Tang had ich .So ,I immediately thought ,oh fun ick and Brook ...So i setup the QT heater HOB filters and power head .I been treating them Daily for two weeks .I have the pair of clown fish,Hippo tang ,one chromi and two Neon Gobies ..The first week everyone looked much better and eating healthy, lots of energy .Now week two ,one of my Neon Goby looks full of ick and the original Male Clown fish looks like he has the brook again but not as bad as before .I have been treating with Kordon Rid-Ich Plus ,once a day ...as it's what i could get my hands on. Im about to give up and just get Chloroquine Phosphate online as its the only thing that has ever really worked for me .How long can i keep treating daily for ? Im getting desperate even thought of getting a new small clown fish and let the neon gobie back to the fs ....I do Fresh water dips also .

I'm not familiar with rid ich. I'd personally recommend metroplex for the brook and copper for the ich. They can be dosed simoltaneously. In fact, metro is even one of the antibiotics recommended in the "trifecta" of metro, kanaplex, and furan-2 often suggested to be used in conjunction with copper due to the likelihood of bacterial infections from the parasites

You could consider dosing the QT with copper and metro. The copper for Ich and the metro for Brook. Suggest use of Copper Power as a reliable chelated copper. When using both copper and metro make sure to increase O2 with either airstone or powerhead aimed to the surface. Do not use CP on Hippo Tangs. They don't do well.

Great info^^^

Also Welcome to R2R! Great place, great people, tons of great info.
Check this out by @Humblefish. I do believe Rid ich is not very successful in the removal of parasites. That is from what I have read, I personally have no experience with it (being used for the eradication of ich/velvet). The only thing I have used it for when formalin is needed.

Thank you all for the quick reply .I went to the FS and bought Cupramine . Just Dosed and then doing a second dose 48hours after first as per the Instructions on the bottle .My Question is when i do water changed do i Adjust the dose to the water Im replacing ? or does copper stay on the bottom of the tank ? this part has me confused ..cuase its a one month treatment . Also ,as i already have the QT setup and running ..I was thinking of adding one new fish ...Would it be to much to bring home a new fish and acclimate to the QT with copper ,would that be to much stress ?

Copper doesn't evaporate out of the tank, so for top off you don't have to add copper. It doesn't stay on the bottom though, it is evenly mixed throughout the water column.

That being said, if you do a water change it's critical to pre-mix the copper into your WC before adding the new water to the tank.

If you are going to add a fish, it would be best to let it settle in to a QT for 2-3 days and be eating well before introduction to copper. The combination of stress from new tank/tank mates, and copper introduction at same time may not end well.

then doing a second dose 48hours after first as per the Instructions
Not a big fan of doing the two big doses. You already did the one dose. Consider breaking up the 2nd dose into smaller doses over 24 to 48 hours. Put some in in the AM and PM until you reach the total amount. It's much easier on the fish. Copper after all is a poison. So giving the fish a bit of time for their systems to adjust is a very good thing. Plus this gives you the advantage of watching the fish for a bad reaction to copper.

Great advice so far! Absolutely get the metroplex as well and run that to cover the brook
Agree with this and all other advice provided here!

Watch ammonia in the quarantine, get an ammonia alert badge by seachem and some Biospira bacteria in a bottle to keep the cycle moving along! :)

Very much agree with using the biopsira... our hospital tank is a 20g long and we have been able to feed everyday (use soaked NLS every second day with selcon) and we have yet to have to do a water change and we are 2 weeks in... (treating 2 clowns and a chromis as the 2 other fish perished before we could treat- lovely holidays)

we just add about 2-3 capfuls of the biopsira every 2-3 days and it’s kept everything ok and In check...

Just also just make sure you are testing your PH to make sure that it doesn’t drop too low (because of no water changes) and also to test the cupramine levels everyday...

each time you pull out water for a PH test/copper test (we check PH once a week and for a copper we test everyday at least once... twice within the first week) you are removing the cupramine so it’s really important to make sure it’s staying at therapeutic levels as the water removed for testing can add up once you are getting closer to the 30 day mark..... and you don’t want the copper to drop down too low when you are nearing the end as you then very well may have to start the 30 days over....

By doing it this way it’s nice because we have so far made it half way through the treatment of 30 days and have not had to do a water change and worry about calculating how much cupramine to add back in to make sure it stays at therapeutic levels but not over dosing

I was told just to use the seachem badge and not to even worry about testing for nitrite/ate during this time and to just do a water change As SOON as the badge begins to go from safe to the next one....

But again thats the importance of the biopsira... it allows us to not have to worry about the water change until the 30 days are up...(may not work for everyone but has worked for us and others)

we also have a back up sponge/filter media soaking in biopsira and SW in a bucket so that if things do go wrong.....you have a better back up for when/if you need to do a water change....

Hope that all makes sense to anyone looking for help... as these threads come up often in a google search.....
