I just got done fragging up a bunch of Zoa/Palys for a buddy that is local. (We're trading guns and a few corals - you know, regular reefer stuff) :xd:

I dread fragging stuff so much now. It is a pain in the butt! Not to mention the amount of glue I go through. lol

It was cool when I was first doing it a while back just to cut stuff here and there for friends. Mainly SPS, which is easy, just break and glue. Zoa's/Palys are a little less fun. Chalices - well I always end up with white splattered clay across my face in a nice line :squigglemouth:

I just ordered 10 tubes of glue and 300 frag plugs/discs so that will make it a little easier.
I guess unless you don't do it often, you have the right stuff, and a frag tank setup, then it might not be so bad.

I just wanted to <rant> since I just spent the last 5 hours fragging stuff up.

Fragging is way over rated ;)

YEAH, no doubt!

I am calling up my buddy today to get a frag tank made. I fought this for a WHILE now. Even my wife has been bugging me to set one up.
Its a done deal. I'm going to put up a 24-36"x18"x10" tank up next to my display for it. I don't have a choice really, unless I want to just have frags all over my display like I do now :(

I'll be over shortly....LOL!

LOL

Its all Palys/Zoas though. (Most of my best ones)
The SPS might be a while. Still have your Icefire and Upscales sitting on the frag rack for whenever your ready.

Does anyone know where to buy IC Gel by the case?

I know we do it in our local club, so I can ask my buddies around here, but I figured I would ask since they usually do it to make a few bucks and help the club out.
I go through 5-10 tubes every couple of months so a case would probably be good to split with someone.

Gotta love the smell of tissue and skeleton being cut with the dremel. I'd much rather frag some sps over cutting up some lps.

I don't mind doing SPS at all. Its easy as can be.
Everything else sucks though - I rank it up next to cleaning my skimmer in the morning :crossedlips:

There is a guy on ebay local to me that sells it for $5 bucks a tube and I'm sure if you buy a case worth he would give you a little price break.

Be careful what you wish for. I have a "shallow" tank that has made this hobby not a hobby anymore :( I can not wait to break that thing down now....

Why? I was just thinking to throw some frags in so they can chill in there till I sell/trade them. It would be plumbed straight to my display. More of just a plumbed in holdover tank.

FYI I lost $ when I ran that group buy

I didn't know you did one on WAMAS. CMAS buys a case at a time then sells it for $6 a tube at the meetings and stuff. Which is totally cool with me. I could just use ~20 tubes ;)

It may just be me Chad, but my goal in the hobby is to enjoy the tank and to let corals grow out. I used to have a rule that I would not frag corals until they get to a certain size. Once I had a couple hundred frags to make sure they were not touching and falling on each other, it became a chore. Now that I have stopped fragging and have kept my hands out of the tanks, my hands have healed and my online time has gone down :)

That's the hard part. I either have to put a frag tank up, or use my QT for growing frags out. Cause once I do this final aquascaping, the frags I am not keeping (colonies to some people ;) ) have to go somewhere till I sell/trade them.
The rest aren't going to be cut for at least a year. (unless something comes up where I am forced to)

I'm set now with all the stuff now for my display. But with all the other stuff I have, it has to go somewhere.

I just don't want to have to use my QT system to grow out/color up the other 50-100 corals that I am not going to keep in my display. I don't want to setup another system with a skimmer and stuff.

I guess I could always just re-aquascape, epoxy all my display stuff down, then leave the frag racks in it till the stuff grows out and colors up, then sell/trade it till the racks are all out. Then just use the QT tank to store frags.
I don't plan on having a lot of frags for a while ~6 months to a year at least.
Right now though - I have to move some of this stuff SOMEWHERE!

My goal is a full mixed reef with colonies like your display is setup.

Good luck with that chad ;) As you know; more is not always better
