remora skimmer info needed

I am thinking about getting a remora skimmer with the maxi jet 1200 pump. Anyone familiar with one of these. Want it for my 55gal saltwater tank that has been up for about 8 weeks now. Will eventually be a reef tank. Don't really want a sump. Any info on your experience with this skimmer will be appreciated.

I have one with a mag 5 pump and overflow box. It really does the trick and i have never had a problem with it. I would highly advise the overflow box it skims off the top layer of the water where most of the bad stuff is and it also hides your pump.

Is it too early to set it up and get it going? Tank has been going for 8 weeks now. Have 3 small dammsells and a Bennie in it. Will it setback the bacteria?

Not at all you should get it going now. It does not take out the good bacteria only the bad stuff.
