Remote Display Refugium Build

This is similar to how I'm doing mine. It's been sitting there plumbed and ready, but empty for months now lol. I didn't realise it could take some time for the nutrients to shift from DT to the fuge. Thanks for that. My assumption was it's the same body of water, it should happen automatically.
It's nice to know people are starting to look at fuges as being a whole new ecosystem they can enjoy instead of just a filter with pods inside :)

Thanks tyler1503 ! Yes, I thought the same about the nutrient shift, but that seemed to not be the case for mine. I did start with fresh "live sand" and some live rock. Nothing took off, even nuisance algae, until after a few weeks. If I were to do it again, I would wait until I started seeing some GHA or other nuisance algae. Then add an unsightly ball of cheato. After that, I would start to add some nice macros and slowly remove the cheato until the macros I wanted started to take off.

With my new tank I just set up I put my macros in during the early part of the cycle. They seem completely uneffected by the ammonia levels and such.. To a certain extent, some of them have done quite well and growing steadily. Seem to enjoy the poor water quality...

Gives me something to look at until I put the seahorses into the tank. Couple more days I hope!!!

That's a great tip. I'll remember that! I can't seem to track down any cheato no matter where I look lol.
Your fuge is looking awesome :)

I believe macros will eat up ammonia too. Extremely high levels can't be good, but lower levels are perfectly fine with macros I believe :)

Can't find chaeto??? Stuff is everywhere in my area. I think there's someone selling zip locks of the stuff on reefcentral last I saw

You beat me to it! Ha! Stuff grows everywhere.

I second that. Fairly cheap ziplock bags filled with Chaeto on ReefCentral.

I know, it sounds crazy right?!
I'm an international reefer so I can't take advantage of the forums and online vendors unfortunately.
In the several years I've been in the hobby and the couple years I worked at an LFS, I've only ever seen macro for sale once. I've only seen it one other time in an LFS sump. When I stock my fuge with macro I'll have to collect it myself.
